LegacyHive Zero-Day Exploit for Windows Privilege Escalation

A security researcher has publicly disclosed 'LegacyHive,' a new zero-day privilege escalation exploit affecting fully patched Microsoft Windows systems. The proof-of-concept (PoC) abuses a flaw in the Windows User Profile Service to gain read access to another user's data, including application settings and Explorer history. No CVE has been assigned, and no patch is currently available, leaving systems vulnerable to information gathering and further attacks.

US Halts CMMC Phase II for Defense Contractor Burden Review

The U.S. Department of War has immediately suspended the Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Phase II rollout, which mandated third-party assessments for defense contractors. The move, announced July 13, 2026, initiates a 60-day review by a new CMMC Reform Task Force aimed at reducing compliance costs and complexity for the Defense Industrial Base (DIB). While third-party certification requirements are paused, contractors must still comply with DFARS 252.204-7012 and conduct NIST SP 800-171 self-assessments.
