A security researcher has publicly disclosed 'LegacyHive,' a new zero-day privilege escalation exploit affecting fully patched Microsoft Windows systems. The move, announced July 13, 2026, initiates a 60-day review by a new CMMC Reform Task Force aimed at reducing compliance costs and complexity for the Defense Industrial Base (DIB). While third-party certification requirements are paused, contractors must still comply with DFARS 252.204-7012 and conduct NIST SP 800-171 self-assessments. The decision was commended by the Small Business Administration for alleviating financial burdens on smaller firms.
